About Us
MISSION STATEMENT OF THE NORDIC FOLKDANCE SOCIETY: To bring cultural contact with the living traditions of Scandinavian folkdance and music to Calgary and area.
Previous dance experience is not necessary to join our sessions. We encourage you to come and join us and bring your dancing shoes! Costumes or bunads are encouraged for formal presentations. Come for the fun and friendship of those who like to folkdance.
Our primary aim is to learn more of the Norwegian and Scandinavian Folkdances. From time to time we are asked to perform at various venues. We encourage participation at these venues but participation is not mandatory. Performances are something we can do for our enjoyment and to show what we have learned. Over the past few years, we have performed for Sons of Norway events (like Syttende Mai), Scandinavian Choir concerts, Spruce Meadows; and the Danish Canadian National Museum in Dickson, Alberta.
